A mention is a post or comment on a platform that tags or @mentions your connected account. SocialAPI’s mentions API lists them for 1 account and replies to a mention as a public comment, including on a post that someone else owns, where the normal comment reply is not allowed. A reply costs 1 interaction credit, and listing costs nothing. What a platform counts as a mention differs: see What the list returns.

Endpoints

{id} is the connected account’s acc_ ID. Mentions belong to 1 account: there is no list across accounts.

Your first mention reply

List the mentions of an account:
Response (HTTP 200):
Reply to it. media_id takes the mention’s sapi_mnt_ ID or the platform’s media ID:
Response (HTTP 200):
The reply is a public comment. comment_id is the new comment’s sapi_cmt_ ID.

List mentions

Each item is an Interaction: see The Interaction shape and Interaction payload for every field. A malformed since, limit, or cursor returns 400 validation.field_invalid. The response holds data, count (the number of items in data), and next_cursor when more mentions exist. Paging is in Pagination. Each call that returns at least one item also sends a mention.received event: see Events.

What the list returns

Each platform exposes a different slice of what people write about your account, so the list holds different things.
  • Instagram: only media in which another account tagged yours. An @mention in a caption or in a comment is not in the list. It arrives as a mention.received event, with metadata.mention_type set to caption or comment.
  • Facebook: the posts that tag the Page. A mention inside a comment arrives as a mention.received event.
  • Threads: public posts that tag the account.
  • TikTok: public posts that mention the account in the caption, and comments that mention it. TikTok Business Accounts only, and each mention appears 24 to 48 hours after it is made.
  • X and Bluesky: posts that mention the account.
  • LinkedIn: posts and comments that mention the company Page, from the last 60 days. A Page connection (linkedin_page, beta access) only: a member or profile connection returns 501 resource.not_supported.
Other platforms return 501 resource.not_supported. Each platform’s page has the rules and limits: Instagram, Facebook, Threads, TikTok, X, Bluesky, and LinkedIn. The capability matrix compares them.

Reply to a mention

POST /v1/accounts/{id}/mentions/reply posts a public comment as the connected account. A missing media_id or text returns 400 validation.field_required. A reply costs 1 interaction credit. Replying works on Instagram, Facebook, Threads, Bluesky, LinkedIn Pages (beta access), and TikTok (mentions made in a comment only: a caption mention returns 400 validation.mention_reply_unsupported). X lists mentions but cannot reply to them: the call returns 501 resource.not_supported. Reply to a comment on your own post with Comments instead.

Limits

Errors and debugging

Check these in order when a mention call fails or returns nothing:
  1. 401, 403 auth.insufficient_scope. The key is invalid, or a scoped key lacks the scope in Scopes.
  2. 404 account.not_found, 403 account.reconnection_required. The acc_ ID is not yours, or the account needs reconnecting.
  3. 403 account.permission_missing. The account lacks the permission the call needs: comments.read to list mentions, and comments.write to reply to one. error.meta.permission names it.
  4. 400 validation.field_required, 400 validation.field_invalid. A required field is missing, or a query parameter is wrong.
  5. 501 resource.not_supported. The platform has no mentions, or cannot reply to them.
  6. 429 validation.interaction_limit_exhausted. The plan’s interaction allowance is used up.
  7. An empty list. The platform does not list that kind of mention. On Instagram, subscribe to mention.received for caption and comment mentions. On Threads, the list can omit mentions until Meta grants the scope for every account: see Threads mentions.
The full catalog is in Errors.

Events

SocialAPI sends mention.received when Instagram, Facebook, or Threads reports that your account was mentioned. The event and the list share the same id on Threads, so you can match them. An account without the comments.read permission receives no mention.received events from the platform. GET /v1/accounts/{id}/mentions also sends a mention.received event on every call that returns at least one item, on every platform that lists mentions. Its data is an array of the listed items and it has no raw_payload. A call that returns no items sends no event. See Mentions you list.
